With the “Taiwan Can Help” mentality, the Taiwanese government and private companies provide aid to Ukraine.

Megaforce Co. Ltd and SurgiBox Inc. donate essential medical devices and demonstrate Taiwan’s advanced medical device manufacturing capabilities

The Ukraine-Russian war continues to rage on. As a country supporting democracy and freedom, Taiwan has been a leader in providing aid to Ukraine throughout the year. Asides from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs allocating a 1.8 billion USD budget to donate to Ukraine, private Taiwanese companies are also extending a helping hand. On January 11th, 2023, Systems Integration and Manufacturing Service provider Megaforce Co., Ltd. (stock code: 3294) held a press conference together with American start-up company SurgiBox. The partners announced that their jointly developed medical device the "SurgiField™” has attained certification to be used for Humanitarian Use Exemption and will donate the "SurgiField™” to the Barvinkove Hospital. Vincent Yao, Director General for European Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs was invited to assist with the donation ceremony.

Director General Yao believes that the devastation caused by war is a humanitarian crisis. The civilians are ultimately suffering as a consequence of conflict. He calls on the international community to assist and to end the war before further damage is caused. He states that Megaforce MedTech used its expert design and manufacturing prowess to help make “SurgiField™” a reality and has been recognized throughout the industry for its efforts. Megaforce is a prime example of a company that believes in humanity and creating equality.

Executive director of Megaforce, Joanne Hsu believes that Megaforce was created based on the desire to create a better quality of life for patients and raise the standard for medical care through R&D, innovation, and systems integrations. With SurgiBox Inc., the Megaforce MedTech Biomedical unit worked with the company through the entire design, production, and integration process. Megaforce was able to assist with turning a prototype into reality. This shows that Taiwanese businesses can have a positive influence on society as long as they operate with kindness and determination.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assisted with the donation by helping connect with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The Ministry of Health of Ukraine evaluated hospitals that are facing extensive shortages in surgical medical devices and decided that the Barvinkove Hospital was to receive the donation. The Barvinkove Hospital is located in Kharkiv, Ukraine, which has been the main target of the Russian army since the outbreak of the war. The donation will assist both soldiers on the front lines and civilians in need of emergency surgical treatments and encourage others to lend a helping hand to Ukraine.

Taiwanese Entrepreneur uses her Harvard Medical School background to save lives

SurgiBox founder Debbie Lin Teodorescu is a Taiwanese American from Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

After graduating from Harvard Medical School, she experienced and witnessed the critical effects of shortages in medical supplies and resources. She founded SurgiBox Inc. to be able to provide a sterile surgical environment in emergencies. During his speech CEO Mike H. M. Teodorescu praised Megaforce Company Limited’s advanced manufacturing capabilities and short lead times and vowed to stand with countries, regions, and people in need of medical resources and to help patients in need.

The “SurgiField™” is comprised of a Smart Control Module (SCM) with a pressurized sterile bubble called the SurgiBubble™. The SCM uses HEPA filters which filter outside air, dust, and insects. It protects surgeons from bodily fluids and is rapidly inflatable and allows for emergency field surgery in any setting. This allows for an increased chance of survival. The "SurgiField™” has been demoed at the MIT Museum along with Nobel Prize-winning innovations.
